Jonas Akerlund - Madonna

Jonas Akerlund, is a Swedish born, film and music video director. He is infamously known for his music videos, as they are most oftenly (if not always), classed as short films rather than your basic music video. His most famous music video that he directed was back in 1998 for Madonna's single - "Ray Of Light". This music video won the Grammy for "Best Short Form Music Video". This video also won a further seven awards at the 1998 MTV Music Video Awards, including "Video Of The Year".

Then in 2000, Jonas Akerlund directed another video for Madonna. This was for her single - Music.

In 2003, Jonas also directed the video to Madonna's "American Life", "Jump" in 2006 and "Celebration" in 2009. Celebration is the latest video he has directed for her.

P!nk - Discography

Funhouse (2008) - P!nk's latest album to date. This album was going to be called "Heartbreak Is A Motherfucker", but was changed to "Funhouse" by her record label in fear that an album title like that would negatively affect album sales. Funhouse reached #1 in the UK, in Australia it reached #1, however in the US it peaked at #2. worldwide sales of Funhouse reached 6,500,000 copies.

"Funhouse" is the fifth single released from the Funhouse album. The single sold over 1,600,000 copies however, it only reached #29 in the UK, #44 in the US, but had fair success in Australia, reaching #6.

P!nk - U + Ur Hand

P!nk's music video for "U + Ur Hand"

First of all I'd like to start with P!nk's video for "U + Ur Hand". This particular video stands out from the rest for me because there is so much going on in this video. With every image that she has within this video, she gives off a demonic/boisterous aura. However, she is wearing a lot of vibrant, deep red colour suggesting that she may be boisterous but she's still promiscuous and passionate. It also suggests that she's dangerous, so we should be aware of her. This song is about how men try to "pull" her at bars/clubs, but she's telling them it's just them and their "hand" tonight, basically saying they are getting nothing whatsoever from her. The video is presented to us as if we were reading a book, showing that P!nk is trying to show us a story in her life. The video shows her as a mechanic, a boxer and a devil looking figure. These "roles" are usually seen as male, so this emphasises her tomboy-ish personality. However, when she is the boxer, she has glittery gloves on; retaining her femininity.

Media Case Study - Well Established Artist - P!nk

I have chosen to study and research into the infamous music artist - P!nk. I have chosen P!nk because I am a huge fan of hers, and I have loved every single one of her albums! I have also chosen P!nk because she is a hugely successful recording artist, and has been on the music scene as a solo artist since 2000. P!nk, (real name Alecia Moore) joined a band called Choice in 1995 - an American contemporary R&B girl group. To date, P!nk has released five studio albums: "Can't Take Me Home" (2000), "M!ssundaztood" (2001), "Try This" (2003), "I'm Not Dead" (2006), "Funhouse" (2008). "M!ssundaztood" is P!nk's biggest selling album to date.
