Reccie Shots

These are the shots of the first location of our video (white background), which is in the welling school art gallery. We think that this is a really useful location as it is very light and bright; almost heaven-like. This heavenly atmosphere from this location will create a pure and elegant tone at the beginning of our music video.

1st December 2010

Today me and Hayley were all set out to begin filming our music video, but due to the snow, closing the school down, our locations were inaccessible. So now we've had to set our shooting schedule back a week now, due to rearranging times for us to be able to do our filming needed. :@

23 November 2010

Today me and Hayleigh had once and for all set our storyboard in stone. At first our storyboard was continuously changing from location to location, costume to costume etc..
But now we have finalised and agreed to our "updated" storyboard.
we hope to start filming on Friday 26th November as long as our locations are free by the off chance, as our shooting schedule is planned to start until 2nd December where we have organised the locations needed to be free for us to use.

Our video...

We plan to have this in our music video. This is the scene where "Lucy" is being pampered and made up by people that are fussing over her, which we have found to be in Pink's music video for "don't let me get me".

Costume/Appearance

The make up on Pink's eyes is what the "real" Lucy Star will have in her music video.

"Material Girl" - Lyrics

(Verse 1)
Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
I think they're ok,
If they don't give me proper credit,
I just walk away.

They can beg, and they can plead,
But they can't see the light, (that's right),
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash,
Is always Mr. Right.

(Chorus)
'Cause we are living in a material world,
And I am a material girl,
You know that we are living in a material world,
And I am a material girl.

(Verse 2)
Some boys romance, some boys slow dance,
That's alright with me,
If they can't raise my interest then I,
Have to let them be.

Some boys try and some boys lie but,
I don't let them play, (no way),
Only boys that save their pennies,
Make my rainy day.

(Chorus)

Living in a material world, (material),
Living in a material world.
(Repeat x2)

(Verse 3)
Boys may come and boys may go,
And that's alright you see,
Experience has made me rich,
And now they're after me.

(Chorus x2 - *Change "'Cause we are" to "'Cause everybody's"*)

A material, a material, a material, a material world.

Living in a material world, (material),
Living in a material world.
(Repeat and Fade)

A2 Media Production Brief

This is the production brief I have chosen to promote - Lucy Star. The title of the single being released is "Material Girl". Lucy is an individual who is different from everyone else; someone who defies the social norm. She doesn't have a label because she is one of a kind and so different, the judges on X-Factor didn't put her through to the live shows. Now Lucy is lucky enough to promote her own individual self with the help of Rough Trade. She wants to show to teenage girls around the world that individuality is a good thing, and you shouldn't be afraid to be different.

Jonas Akerlund - Madonna

Jonas Akerlund, is a Swedish born, film and music video director. He is infamously known for his music videos, as they are most oftenly (if not always), classed as short films rather than your basic music video. His most famous music video that he directed was back in 1998 for Madonna's single - "Ray Of Light". This music video won the Grammy for "Best Short Form Music Video". This video also won a further seven awards at the 1998 MTV Music Video Awards, including "Video Of The Year".

Then in 2000, Jonas Akerlund directed another video for Madonna. This was for her single - Music.

In 2003, Jonas also directed the video to Madonna's "American Life", "Jump" in 2006 and "Celebration" in 2009. Celebration is the latest video he has directed for her.

P!nk - Discography

Funhouse (2008) - P!nk's latest album to date. This album was going to be called "Heartbreak Is A Motherfucker", but was changed to "Funhouse" by her record label in fear that an album title like that would negatively affect album sales. Funhouse reached #1 in the UK, in Australia it reached #1, however in the US it peaked at #2. worldwide sales of Funhouse reached 6,500,000 copies.

"Funhouse" is the fifth single released from the Funhouse album. The single sold over 1,600,000 copies however, it only reached #29 in the UK, #44 in the US, but had fair success in Australia, reaching #6.

P!nk - U + Ur Hand

P!nk's music video for "U + Ur Hand"

First of all I'd like to start with P!nk's video for "U + Ur Hand". This particular video stands out from the rest for me because there is so much going on in this video. With every image that she has within this video, she gives off a demonic/boisterous aura. However, she is wearing a lot of vibrant, deep red colour suggesting that she may be boisterous but she's still promiscuous and passionate. It also suggests that she's dangerous, so we should be aware of her. This song is about how men try to "pull" her at bars/clubs, but she's telling them it's just them and their "hand" tonight, basically saying they are getting nothing whatsoever from her. The video is presented to us as if we were reading a book, showing that P!nk is trying to show us a story in her life. The video shows her as a mechanic, a boxer and a devil looking figure. These "roles" are usually seen as male, so this emphasises her tomboy-ish personality. However, when she is the boxer, she has glittery gloves on; retaining her femininity.

Media Case Study - Well Established Artist - P!nk

I have chosen to study and research into the infamous music artist - P!nk. I have chosen P!nk because I am a huge fan of hers, and I have loved every single one of her albums! I have also chosen P!nk because she is a hugely successful recording artist, and has been on the music scene as a solo artist since 2000. P!nk, (real name Alecia Moore) joined a band called Choice in 1995 - an American contemporary R&B girl group. To date, P!nk has released five studio albums: "Can't Take Me Home" (2000), "M!ssundaztood" (2001), "Try This" (2003), "I'm Not Dead" (2006), "Funhouse" (2008). "M!ssundaztood" is P!nk's biggest selling album to date.

Media Journal Entry 1 - AS

During my AS course in Media Studies, I was fortunate enough to learn a broad variety of media terminology, techniques and key concepts of Generic film trailers and generic TV dramas. Even though I took Media at GCSE, I still hadn't grasped how to use iMovie or Final Cut Pro. However, I learned how to use them both efficiently as the AS course progressed.

One of our tasks at the beginning of the AS course, was a "preliminary task", in which we had to create a short film, where we had to follow the guidelines as to what must feature in our short film. A few of the editing techniques that had to be present were - Continuity - where the shots are placed together in a way to maintain a flow of constant time, Match On Action - where an object would begin an action in one shot, and complete it in the next; thus creating a visual bridge that deters viewers from noticing the cut from one shot to another. At first it was quite difficult for my group and I to be able to show these techniques in our footage, but with trial and error, we succeeded in making these techniques fit in smoothly within our short film. As we were learning the new tricks of the trade, I was becoming more and more confident with understanding how different shots and editing techniques can change or add meaning to a certain text. During the editing process of our short film, I was understanding how to use iMovie more efficiently as I observed a group colleague work her magic on the editing software which was highly beneficial to myself.

With the techniques learned, we were able to move on to the next task being coursework. The coursework was to create a generic trailer. Before any planning and filming could commence, we had to learn the key codes and conventions of specific genres. These codes and conventions include things such as what the audience would expect from that specific genre like Horror - audiences would expect blood, and lots of it! or Adventure - audiences would expect a heroic figure, and perhaps a mythical creature or two! Also, we had to learn and understand the five key concepts of a film: Genre, Narrative, Representation, Audience and Media Language. We then got put into groups, and all the groups were able to choose what genre we wanted to make our trailer to be classed as, my group made a joint decision to create a horror themed trailer for a new fictional film. Within our group, we delegated ourselves roles, which I was in charge of the planning & research, the other 3 members were in charge of production (filming), editing, and exhibition. I learned as this course progressed that a lot of commitment, effort and time were needed to keep on track and stay on schedule and stay organised. As the weeks passed, we were finalising our footage, ready to be burned to a disc. However, we realised once Mrs Raji had viewed our media product, that we had only one or two editing techniques present in our trailer. So we took our product back, and re-shot certain scenes making sure we had all the elements in our media text. We made an animated production company logo which took some time figuring out how to create it and make it look professional. Finally we had finished re-shooting and re-editing, and again showed it to Mrs Raji, and we had made a successful trailer! Then came the presentations. We presented our trailer to the media class, and beforehand we had to tell them our processes of how the trailer became to be. We got a general positive feedback from our audience, and we were really pleased.

Once the trailer exhibitions were over, we began preparing for our examination. Preparation for the exam took a whole lot of revising, and a whole lot of learning terminology, key concepts and media theorems. Whilst the deadline was coming up for everything needed to be put on our blogs ready to be sent of for examination, I had a personal problem that affected my work and was unable to complete everything on my blog, and revise and study efficiently and put 100 percent effort into the preparation for the exam.

Overall, I really enjoyed my experience of the AS Media Studies course, but due to the unfortunate circumstances, my inability to put maximum time and effort into my work; jeopardising my chance of achieving to the best of my ability, however, I remain optimistic about my outcome of this course, and hope to be able to continue to Media Studies at A2.
